What are the consequences if a JW files for an unscriptural divorce?
by Daniel1555 inin january my wife separated from me, because she views me as an apostate (to make the story short).. at that time the elders explained to us, that the bible doesn't approve of such a separation.
i heard from my mother in law, that my wife finally wants to divorce.
(when i think of how my wife treated me the last year i actually want a divorce too).. now my question to you:.

Shopaholic - WRONG Though Apostacy is a "scriptural" reason for separation it is not one for divorce.
Dozy - RIGHT Nailed it.
When I was an elder we had a sister move into the congregation who was separated from her witness husband. The local elders knew her for years and they appointed her a regular pioneer. The CO rubber stamped it. Then a few months later the elders in her old congregation called upset that she was pioneering. Oddly enough they had appointed him a MS after she left. She was going to divorce him. The CO was confused why all this was happening and said, "Aw just leave it alone. Encourage them to talk but dont remove either of them." Meanwhile someone else would get hammered. Such BS.
I have a relative that was unscripturally divorced and not living with his ex (obviously) for 5 years. When he married someone else, they DF'd him. 23 years ago now. Not bad.

Have you been Invalidated?
by Londo111 inhttp://www.eqi.org/invalid.htm.
of course, being in a cult and the shunning that comes from leaving it is invalidating.. but how many times have we heard "move on" or "get over it"?
that is a prime example of invalidation.. sometimes this forum, as well as others, can be a mixed bag of validation and invalidation..

London111 I think that's why I made my comment. There is a difference between moving on emotionally and just living in denial. We did belong to the cult. We have to take more than out bodies out of it. But we can intellectually remain active in fighting the evil we know too well and still "move on". I think if our life becomes consumed by the anti-JW campaigning to the exclusion of emotional well being, we have not moved on.

Just saying "get over it" is pretty vauge and shows a lack of insight when referring to the Borg experience. But sometimes in other situations I dont feel completely the same. There are some who go on with such self pity about situations that are so transparent as they have described it that saying "get over it" means more than simply moving on. It means get over yourself and your obvious post amounting to a pity party. Either way, I think the point can be made more appropriately by a better choice of words.

What's the difference between exJWs who FLOURISH and those that don't?
by Fernando inquite a few here on jwn seem to have grown and developed in leaps and bounds, sometimes beyond their wildest dreams.. others seem to still be struggling.. what do you think makes it possible to flourish?.
the degree to which our mind has been liberated from watchtower thinking?.
if so, this seems to happen in many different ways, so what is the secret?.

I think it relates to what extent the Borg defined your sense of being. If you are adrift after you will feel useless. Find a purpose and live happy in the knowledge that you are free to make decisions based on your own power of reason and experience.

One witness told me they dont like Gen 2:7 because it now reads "Adam became a living person" and not a "living soul". This screws up her whole ministry ya know?

The great poet Maya Angelou passes
by designs inher life embodied how the human spirit can rise from crushing conditions to mentor, role model and teacher.. she went mute for 5 years after being raped at the age of 9. in that time she found her inner spirit to write and speak for others.. her life course went from working in brothels to teaching in universites.
from broken home to addressing the nation at william clinton's inaugeration.. her poems touched millions of lives.
i know why the caged bird sings; on the pulse of morning; a brave and startling truth:.

I'm sorry she is gone, but I never liked her work or the reverence she was given. She exuded a certain snobbery in her manner which belied her nature. Without her backstory I would never have guessed her roots. I think her manner turned some people off. I like poetry that is both meaningful and witty at times, not simply dark and brooding. To each their own.
